Virgin Lamp & Music Box

This is the really cool lamp that I bought at an antique store in Venice, Florida with my grandmother. It also is a music box!

Turduckin?

If I was going to try to visualize what a Turduckin might look like, this pretty much fits the bill. It was hanging out near the water (bay) where I was walking near the hotel this afternoon.

More of Miami

Here is a detail of one of the buildings
that is under construction in the area all around the hotel (Radisson)

and the real view from my window
in room 1421.

Miami Clouds

Here is a view of the clouds from my hotel window (room 1421). This conference has overloaded my brain completely. I think I am no longer receptive to new information. I look forward to hanging with G&G in Venice for a little R&R.

expired sx70 film Virgin

Here is the same statue earlier in the day (12:40pm) in the same spot but with expired sx70 film (exp 07/06). I don't have much of this film left and I love how blue it is. I'm sooooo sad that I can't get more of this. I did get some of the new sx70 blend film, its expensive and the colors are decent. I wonder what happens when it is expired??

New Favorite Virgin

This is my new favorite image of the Virgin statue that I bought at the Alameda Antique Faire. I shot her yesterday around 2:30 in my studio on the farm table with the white cement wall in the background (though you can't see the background in this photo) with natural window light and my sx70 camera on the close-up setting with 600 film and a rosco 2x nd filter.

Issues with my monitor

The images that I've posted mostly look blown out on my monitor. I'm pretty sure that they look o.k. on other monitors (?).

And another...

Here she is in my backyard a couple of days ago. I like the contrast of the walkway.

Another View of the Virgin

Here she is in my studio this afternoon. Just natural window light is flatly illuminating her.

Virgin on Roof

This is the virgin statue that I bought for $20 last weekend at the Alameda antique market from the French woman in the first row. She wanted $28 and I thought that was a bit steep (she is quite chipped and her hands are missing as are her feet). I went back when she was packing up and offered $20.

This image was taken on Saturday morning on my rooftop. The pebbles on the roof echo the muted colors of her finish. I will be photographing her a lot and will post more versions. I have a really wonderful polaroid from the studio today that I need to scan and will post once I get it scanned.

Kitty's Friends

These are apparently friends of Kitty's. They are 3 roofs away from our house. I could see them from the upstairs window but couldn't see the details so used my camera to zoom in. They look cute!

Mexican Doll

This doll is very similar to the three Mexican Dolls that I got in Mexico City in January 2006. The woman wanted $20. I thought that was steep, considering I paid $20 for all 3 of the ones that I got in Mexico. She let me take a picture and when I got back to my studio I looked at the dolls I had and compared this photo. The baby is a little different so I decided to go back to the flea market and purchase this doll. The woman's helper was there and she was unfriendly so I decided not to buy the doll afterall!

Baby Brownie Camera

To add to my collection, I found this Vintage Baby Brownie Special Camera today at the Alemany flea market (same place I got the lunch bucket). $5 also.

Black Vintage Lunch Box

I've been looking for one of these lunch boxes. I either wanted it in black or silver. $5 can't beat that. My studio is starting to look like an antique shop!

spool with unpainted head

Here are two more items from the 5 for $6 deal. The thread spools are a great display item. I'm sure they will continue to come in handy. The texture under the spool is the top of the farm table in my studio.

Broken Doll head

Here is one of the other 5 items that I bought from the first guy at the flea market. She is also propped up on the end of a paint brush.

little bisque doll

This is one of the 5 items that I bought at the first place I stopped. The guy had a box with a bunch of small bisque doll parts and broken heads. They were just haphazardly thrown in the box. He gave me all 5 items for $6. I was excited because I only had $18 total with me, as I was not planning on going to the flea market today but since I was driving by, I couldn't resist just looking!

I stuck the doll body on paint brush handles to prop it up for the photo.

Old Wooden Chair

This is the folding wooden chair that I got today at the Alemany flea market for $10. I saw it the first time I went but couldn't find a price or the owner to tell me the price. When I went back the 2nd time he was helping some people load up some other furniture (he was tired, he had been there since 3:30am) and he said $10 bucks so I said, I'll take it. It goes well with the table.

Farm Table

Finally, here is a picture of the farm table that I got for $40 from
the Alemany flea market a couple of weeks ago. I still haven't
thoroughly cleaned it. One of the drawers needs a new bottom.
I love photographing on it. The texture of the top, though not completely flat is really great. I was going to put a different top on it. Perhaps an old door from urban ore??

Three Tiny Doll Heads

Here are the three doll heads that I got from England. The dirt was on them (no extra charge).

Tiny little head

These (one of three) came from England. They are soooooo cute, only a couple of inches tall.

Wooden Spool

This wooden spool makes a great stand. Now I wish that I would have bought a couple more of the small ones at the antique faire last weekend in Alameda.

Little Green Virgin

She is soooo cute. It took a while to see her (3 weeks or so). She isn't very tall, maybe 8 inches. She sat at the post office for 7 days or so.

Virgin Mary in my studio, March 10th, 2007

This was around 5:15 this evening (Saturday) in my studio. the light that comes in through the window is really beautiful and the leafy shadows are created from my olive tree.

The Virgin in my backyard

Another beautiful Virgin Mary Statue. She looks lovely in the backyard. This was acquired on ebay in February of this year.

The Number Five

I bought two number five carved wooden letter press numbers. What is the significance of the number 5?

$3 Bottle

There were many cool vintage bottles at the Antique Market but this one was cheap too!

Decorative Roof Thing

This was an interesting roof display thing that was at the Antique Market. I love the distressed-ness of it.

Another Virgin Mary Statue

Here is one of the statues of the Virgin Mary that I got in a box full of religious stuff (mostly crap!). Taken within minutes of each other in my backyard on Saturday morning, March 3rd, 2007

Little Wooden Guy

This is the little wooden guy at the same booth as the doll head that I didn't buy. I just kept thinking about him. He is really cute and unusual. This was a photo that I snuck!

The Doll head that I didn't buy

Alameda Antique Market, Sunday, March 4th, 2007

I almost bought this doll head. The eyes moved but the guy wanted $38 for it. I thought that was kind of high. He was at the end of row G, where the little wooden guy was. He had a lot of cool stuff but a lot of it was pricey.

Olive Tree Buds

The Olive Tree in my studio has beautiful new buds. It loves being by the window.

I love the shadows that it casts onto my studio wall.

These images were shot on Wednesday, February 28th, 2007.
